About us

History

The Partnership for Progress in Bone Health was created as a response to the call to action of the October 2004 Report of the Surgeon General. The Report, the first of its kind regarding bone health and osteoporosis, finds that the bone health status of much of America is in jeopardy and will continue to worsen unless there is a major shift in public health practice.

A coalition of sponsors, supporters and advisors, the Partnership is dedicated to improving America’s bone health by bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and its application in the community through promoting systems-based approaches for health plans and insurers. The Summit Meeting of the Partnership for Progress was held on April 9th and 10th, 2005 in New York City. One of the results of the Summit was this website (www.partnershipforprogress.org), aimed at educating health care providers, health plans, insurers and consumers, and replacing the perception of osteoporosis as an inevitable part of the natural aging process with the understanding that osteoporosis is a disease that can be both prevented and managed. Additional Partnership for Progress activities will be announced at later dates.
